the LADARWave wavefront device
The LADARWave® wavefront device is an integral part of the LADARVision® System, and is instrumental in delivering the CustomCornea® difference.
Thanks to advanced wavefront technology, the device makes it possible to measure and address both lower and higher order visual aberrations:
- Lower order aberrations include the most common types of vision problems, like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
- Other imperfections in your eye's optical system can affect your visual clarity and your night or low-light vision. These distortions, called higher order aberrations, are believed by ophthalmologists to contribute to glare, shadows, halos, and other annoying visual effects.
Traditional laser vision correction, like eyeglasses and contact lenses, only corrects lower order visual distortions. Now, with CustomCornea®, surgeons can address higher order aberrations. This treatment gives you the potential of seeing better than 20/20.
With CustomCornea® Customized LASIK, also known as Wavefront LASIK, your doctor can diagnose and treat higher order aberrations that could never be detected before.
How LADARWave® Wavefront System Technology Works
Your doctor will use the LADARWave® device to take detailed measurements as part of your CustomCornea® treatment:
- An eye-safe beam of light is passed through your eye using the computerized, wavefront-measuring LADARWave® instrument. Your visual distortions are measured as the light exits your eye.
- The LADARWave® wavefront system captures the distorted waves as they exit your eye.
- The device generates a three-dimensional map representing your unique visual distortions, including both lower and higher order aberrations. This map is a guide for the laser, telling it exactly where to reshape your cornea to correct your vision.
The wavefront map illustrating the aberrations of your eye is aligned with the eye's surface. The LADARVision® excimer laser is the only laser system that has proven to align a wavefront map to your eye's position, thanks to its advanced matching process.
