a happier road:
Larry

The blistering summers of southern Mississippi can often be intolerable. UPS driver Larry is all too familiar with this unbearable heat index, especially as he drives around in his delivery truck with no air conditioning.

"My truck has reached up to 150 degrees in the summer, so you're obviously going to perspire. The constant down pour of sweat into my eyes would cause them to burn all day during the summer time. It really affected my driving ability, and I always had to carry around an extra pair of contacts to deal with this." In addition, he was unable to find contacts that fit his eyes properly, causing continual discomfort.

These are just two of many reasons the 31-year-old Larry turned to laser eye surgery as a solution. He had considered it for years, but was leery of the procedure.

"My uncle had RK (Radial Keratotomy) years ago, which got me interested in the possibility. But, I didn't want anyone cutting on my eye. So, when I learned about LASIK, I became even more interested, but was still somewhat apprehensive. A friend then told me about this new technology that reduces the risk of side effects from laser eye surgery. I was so excited to learn about wavefront technology. It really helped me off the fence and [I decided] to go ahead with the CustomCornea® procedure."

Larry has worn contacts or eyeglasses since second grade. Not only has CustomCornea® made his job easier, it's proven beneficial to many of his hobbies.

"I'm an avid hunter. Before my procedure, having one eye squinting all day would cause my eye to go blurry. Now, I can look through the scope non-stop, all day, with no problems. I also enjoy softball. LASIK has helped me see the ball a lot clearer. I'm hitting better now than when I was at my prime in high school."

Larry is now seeing better than 20/20 in both eyes. The procedure has not only enhanced his lifestyle, it's given him a new outlook on life.

"Having worn eyeglasses for so long, I felt like I was in a prison. To sum up my experience now, I'm free."

Results may vary and some people may still need to wear corrective lenses after LASIK. As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with having LASIK eye treatment and not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure. Your eye doctor can discuss LASIK's risks and benefits with you, and help you determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK eye treatment.
