a husband and wife team: Kellie and Sean
Kellie had struggled with contacts and eyeglasses for nearly 20 years, but when her husband Sean began wearing contacts and was unable to put them in himself, she knew it was time for a family adjustment.
"I've had to put in my husband's contacts for the past several years, adding an extra five to ten minutes to an already hectic morning schedule juggling a full-time job and two kids. Plus, we always both worried about what to do if he needed to take them out during the day when I wasn't around."
An active, sports-filled existence has also always been part of Sean and Kellie's lifestyle, so laser eye surgery began to pique their interest.
"I had the common fear of someone messing with my eyes. But I knew several people who had had PRK or LASIK years ago and were happy with their results. Then, I learned about a new procedure called CustomCornea®."
Both Kellie and Sean had problems seeing at night. Kellie suffered from glare and her contacts were always hazy. Sean frequently experienced halos.
"I had halos, and whether I was playing ball at night or driving, whenever I looked up at a light, it always had a big ring around it. But, now, it's fabulous. I can see a great distance with no problems at all."
Knowing that the risk of side effects was reduced, Kellie and Sean felt much more comfortable about undergoing laser eye surgery. Both have achieved tremendous acuity levels of better than 20/20—with Sean seeing 20/12.5 in both eyes and Kellie seeing 20/16 in her left eye and 20/12.5 in her right eye.
"The CustomCornea® surgery has made my vision better than I could have imagined. My doctor said if I saw any better, I'd have x-ray vision."
"It's just crystal clear—day and night. It is unbelievable how well I can see. I wish I had the procedure done a long time ago. I am absolutely thrilled with the results."
Results may vary and some people may still need to wear corrective lenses after LASIK. As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with having LASIK eye treatment and not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure. Your eye doctor can discuss LASIK's risks and benefits with you, and help you determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK eye treatment.
