Why is tracking important?

Your eyes are always moving. Even when you think you're keeping them perfectly still, your eyes make small, sharp, involuntary movements (called saccadic movements). During laser vision correction, it is important for your eye to remain very still so that each laser pulse is accurately placed to reshape the cornea. This becomes even more important in treating very fine imperfections with the CustomCornea® procedure.

But, you simply cannot keep your eyes still on your own.

LADARVision® Closed-Loop Tracking

Successful eye tracking needs to be able to sample the eye's position at a rate of at least 1000 times per second in order to keep up with saccadic eye movements. The patented LADARTracker® eye tracking device samples eye movements at a rate of 4000 times per second, or four times the perceived safety margin.

LADARVision® closed-loop tracking stays locked on to the eye at all times, tracking and compensating for eye movement during surgery, ensuring accurate placement of the laser beam.

Video-Based Open-Loop Tracking

While LADARVision® closed-loop tracking samples eye movements at 4000 times per second, the fastest video tracking can only sample at 200 times per second. This means that a video tracker cannot stay locked on to the eye at all times during surgery, and no system has been proven to accurately track eye movement, except the LADARVision® System.

Tracking Comparison

The LADARVision® eye tracking device displays unmatched accuracy in tracking and compensating for saccadic eye movement.

Video-based, open-loop tracking is not able to detect and compensate for involuntary eye movements. In a customized laser vision correction procedure, this could result in an imprecise treatment. Open-loop tracking is used for safety only, not safety and improved accuracy.

Look for LADARVision® Tracking

The LADARVision® System is distinctly different from other laser systems. The integration of the industry's only closed-loop eye tracking device and accurate small beam corneal reshaping allows you to feel confident your doctor can achieve the desired results from your LASIK or CustomCornea® procedure.

Be sure to talk to your doctor about the advantages of the LADARVision® System.
